A Fresh Look for a Treasured Collection: Spokeology’s Logo Refresh for the Statesville Historical Collection

At Spokeology, we’re passionate about supporting local organizations that make a meaningful impact in our community. That’s why we were honored to collaborate with the Statesville Historical Collection to refresh their logo as part of their move to an enhanced location and professional space.

This project was a true team effort, guided by the invaluable contributions of Dustin Nix, the Historical Collection’s intern. Over the past year, Dustin formed a close connection with Steve Hill, the visionary behind the Statesville Historical Collection. By immersing himself in the collection and understanding its purpose, mission, and voice, Dustin provided our team with detailed insights to ensure the redesigned logo aligned perfectly with Steve’s vision.

“We wanted Steve to have a brand/logo that matched the enhanced location and professional space for the collection,” said Cindy Sutton, CEO of Spokeology. “It was important to us to honor his original vision while creating something that reflects the growth and transformation of the Statesville Historical Collection.”

Honoring the Past, Enhancing the Future

Our approach began with the original logo, a beloved symbol of Steve’s dedication to preserving Statesville’s history. With Dustin’s input, we understood how much this design meant to him and the community. Our goal wasn’t to reinvent it but to enhance it, creating a refreshed logo that feels both timeless and modern.

The updated design retains key elements that represent the collection’s identity while improving its clarity, scalability, and visual appeal. The result is a logo that not only pays homage to the past but also represents the bright future of the Statesville Historical Collection in its new home.

A New Space, A Renewed Brand, and a Growing Website

Dustin’s dedication didn’t stop at providing guidance for the logo refresh—he got bitten by the marketing bug and took it upon himself to build a website for the collection. Using the easy-to-use tools provided by our SaaS partner, Locable, Dustin created an online home for the Statesville Historical Collection to showcase its incredible artifacts and stories.
"I’m immensely proud of Dustin," said Cindy Sutton, CEO of Spokeology. "Watching a high school student embrace a project so passionately and take the initiative to self-teach is inspiring. When I congratulated him on his efforts, he humbly replied, ‘I just followed Spokeology’s projects and took notes.’ It’s that kind of drive and curiosity that makes him an exceptional part of this journey.”
To ensure the website continues to evolve and meet the needs of the collection, Dustin will be working closely with the Spokeology team, where we’ll mentor him as he continues to enhance and expand the site. His enthusiasm and initiative highlight how a passion for history and storytelling can translate into meaningful marketing efforts.

A Collaborative Effort

Dustin’s deep understanding of the mission, vision, and voice of the Statesville Historical Collection, coupled with his hands-on efforts in building the website, was pivotal in supporting the redesign and ensuring it represents both the legacy and aspirations of the collection. It’s a testament to the power of collaboration when passion for history meets creative design and marketing expertise.
